Math/English/ACT/SAT/SSAT/ASVAB Tutor /hour (Honolulu) in Honolulu, HI
Aloha! I am a full-time private tutor with over 10 years of tutoring experience in math, English, and standardized tests.
I currently tutor English language arts from 1st-grade level up to college level. Tutored topics include vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, reading comprehension, inferences, supporting ideas using evidence, response papers, summarization, pronunciation, and conventions of different types of writing.
I tutor mathematics from 1st-grade level up to high school level. Tutored math topics include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, arithmetic, measurements, probability, functions, statistics, and matrices.
Standardized tests tutored include the ACT, SAT, SSAT, ASVAB, GRE, PSAT, and more. I am fully familiar with each academic section of every tutored test, and can help the student to raise his or her test score in any section, including essay writing, reading comprehension, and math.
I focus on understanding each student's own learning goals and how he or she likes to work. Instruction is designed around each individual student's specific goals and needs. I also help students to overcome learning obstacles on their way to acquiring specific language, mathematical, test-taking, or study skills.
I have tutored gifted students, failing students in need of remedial tutoring, working adults, and ESL students. I speak some Cantonese, Spanish, and Mandarin as well.
$80/hour per student is the basic rate for one-on-one tutoring. I can tutor students in person in Honolulu or online via Zoom or Skype. The per-student rate is higher if I have to travel farther to meet the student or if there are other special circumstances and lower if there are more than one student or if many hours are paid for at a time.
We can meet at any place you'd like. Common tutoring locations include fast food restaurants, students' homes, and coffee shops- basically, any quiet indoor location. My travel radius is east to Hawaii Kai, west to Aiea, and windward to Kailua. If I have to travel outside of that radius to meet the student, then I would have to charge extra, depending on exactly how much farther I would have to travel. I work seven days a week, preferably between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. There is a minimum of 1.5 hours per tutoring session. The average session length is around 2 hours, but I have gone as high as 4 hours per appointment. I also require 24-hour notice before a scheduled session is to be canceled or rescheduled for non-emergency reasons, as last-minute scheduling changes impose a financial burden on a tutor when expected income from a reserved time slot does not appear. If the student(s) is absent or unable to make the scheduled session for non-emergency reasons and 24-hour notice was not given, then the scheduled session will be charged at its usual rate as if it had occurred in its entirety (of course, I would prefer if notice was given as soon as it was known that the student(s) would be unable to make it to tutoring).
If you are interested in my help, then please send me a message with the Student's Learning Needs, Grade Level, Where You Would Like To Meet, and Preferred Day of Week and Time, and I will get back to you about when I'm available at this time.
