This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), Pacific Region (PR), Honolulu Forecast Office in Honolulu, HI. Applicants must be available to work at the duty location for the duration of the appointment. This announcement is open to students who reside in the local commuting area of the position. As a Student Trainee (Meteorologist), you will perform the following duties:
You will receive on-the-job and formal training to provide you with experience in the operation meteorological duties. You will become familiar with National Weather Service programs, policies, and procedures; and you will have an opportunity to perform progressively more responsible assignments as experience is gained. You will also receive instructions and gain practical experience in interpreting radar echoes and satellite imagery in terms of associated meteorological conditions. You will have the opportunity to participate in scientific research and develop procedures to transfer research to operations. official proof of enrollment letter from a university or a transcript indicating courses to be taken in the Fall of 2020). Unofficial transcripts are required if using education to qualify. This position is not in the bargaining unit. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee. The ideal candidate for this internship is a degree-seeking student who is pursuing at least a bachelor's degree with a major in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science. To be eligible for conversion to a term or career-conditional appointment a candidate must meet the requirements for the 1340 series. https:

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS-03 level:
Successful completion of 1 year of post-high school study that included at least one course in meteorology, mathematics, engineering or physical science. OR Six months of general experience defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. OR Equivalent combinations or education and experience. To qualify at the GS-04 level:
Successful completion of 2 years of post-high school study that included at least 12 semester hours in meteorology, mathematics, engineering or physical science. OR 6 months of general and 6 months of specialized work experience. General experience is defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience is defined as experience collecting meteorological data. OR Equivalent combinations or education and experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
