NOAA is seeking bright, innovative, results-oriented students who are pursuing a degree or certificate program in an accredited educational institution for our Summer Intern Program. The NOAA Summer Intern Program targets students currently enrolled (or currently enrolled and accepted for enrollment) in a degree-seeking or Certificate program at least on a half-time basis. (Applicants who do not meet the definition of student by the closing date of the announcement will not be considered). This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS). Applicants must be available to work at the duty location for the duration of the appointment. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee. OPM Salary Charts for specific salary information related to a specific location. Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) for Honolulu, Hawaii is 10.28% and 3.13% for Puerto Rico and is not federally taxed. The COLA is not reflected in the locality salary shown in this vacancy announcement. COLAs are exempt from Federal income taxes. Post Differential may be authorized for Barrigada, Guam for hires outside of the local area. May be eligible to applicants from the mainland, Alaska, or Hawaii. You may be entitled to 20% post differential allowance in addition to the salary. Post differentials are not exempt from Federal income taxes. As a Student Trainee (Physical Science), you will receive on-the-job and formal training to provide experience in the operation and familiarization with physical science programs, policies, and procedures, and an opportunity to perform progressively more responsible assignments as experience is gained. This position is not in the bargaining unit. EDUCATION:
Successful completion of 2 years of post-high school study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. OR
Experience:
6 months of general and 6 months of specialized work experience. General experience is defined as any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience is defined as experience gathering physical science data. OR COMBINATION:
Equivalent combinations or education and experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
