Summary:
Diagnoses and treats individuals with speech-language, cognitive-communicative and swallowing disabilities and performs orientation training to patient, family members, and/or caregivers related to communication and swallowing disorders. Starting Wage:
$73,440.00 The posted wage is the current starting wage for this position. Actual wage is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience and qualifications for this position. The wage range for this position may be subject to change in the future depending on a variety of factors such as market conditions, business needs, legal developments, and other appropriate factors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

MANAGEMENT OF PATIENT CARE FOR OPTIMAL OUTCOMES Evaluates patient for therapy services. Collects and interprets data. Develops, implements and modifies treatment plan. Delegates treatment activities to SLP-students, Rehabilitation Technicians and other support staff as appropriate. Provides instruction and monitors staff's performance of activities. Involves patient and/or caregiver and provides appropriate treatment. Consults with and collaborates with other members of the team. Documents timely and appropriately, in compliance with regulatory, third party payor and REHAB standards, and monitors SLP-students documentation on a timely basis. Understands the diversity of patient's needs, and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient. Practices safety guidelines required for safe mobility, transfer, proper body mechanics in the delivery of patient care and performance of job duties. Uses appropriate equipment for personal and patient safety. DISCHARGE PLANNING Actively involves patient/caregiver in assuring that mutual discharge goals are met. Recommends home modification and equipment needs, as appropriate. Orients and trains patients/caregivers on the importance of using safe swallowing strategies and recommendations to enhance cognitive communication skills. Coordinates services effectively to facilitate smooth transition into school/work/community activities as appropriate per patient needs. Recommends appropriate discharge (outpatient only) of or extension of services in a timely manner. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Reports equipment that is out of order, secures equipment in designated area. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, disaster plans and procedures. Responds appropriately to emergencies such as Code 500, Fire or Disaster drills, Code Green, etc. Follows and enforces Infection Control policies and procedures:
1. Universal precautions 2. Use of gloves3. Isolation precaution 4. Disposal of contaminated items 5. Hand washing technique pre and post patient care and other related activities. Practices safety guidelines required for safe mobility, transfer, proper body mechanics in the delivery of patient care and performance of job duties. Uses appropriate equipment for personal and patient safety. Performs patient safety goals established by the organization in the daily provision of patient care. Examples but not limited to:
using two (2) patient identifiers in the performance of patient care; frequent rounds, observation and documentation of patients considered high risk, bedside report with the incoming shift for patient endorsement; equipment checks such as RN alert, call lights and other related patient care equipment. Maintains a clean and safe working environment. PROFESSIONALISM Incorporates professionalism and demonstrates customer service in the daily delivery of care through positive communication and positive interpersonal relationship with internal and external customers. Respects patient's rights and preferences. Maintains confidentiality of information during and related to the course of work and performance of duties. Demonstrates commitment to quality services. Completes assignments within scheduled work hours. Accountable to start and end work based on designated work shift. Demonstrates flexibility with work schedule as needed. When appropriate, obtains approval from the supervisor for changes and/or variances. Observes and follows house rules and dress code. Attends and participates in inservices, conferences and educational programs to assure continued professional growth and maintains unit education record. Complies with and updates yearly skills review per policy and timely completes requirements needed to maintain position and/or employment at REHAB. Demonstrates competence with technical skill review of procedures, treatments, and equipment usage. Keeps self updated on hospital and unit announcements, including updated policies and procedures. Offers recommendations to improve processes and/or operations of the department. Participate in continuous improvement projects. Interacts openly and professionally while supporting management directives and strategic objectives. Supports and promotes REHAB's mission, as a positive role model, demonstrating a proactive approach to situations, and practicing REHAB values. Enhances clinical skills through attending workshops, conferences and inservices pertinent to patient care. Manages time effectively. Maintains productivity; meets all departmental requests and assignments on a timely basis; effectively monitors and/or completes clinic schedules as needed. Keeps abreast with current information via attending meeting/reading memorandums. Reports to work on time. Participates effectively in marketing/sales to promote REHAB and Clinics. COMPLIANCE Assures that all department and hospital policies are followed. Promotes and adheres to REHAB's Compliance Program. Identifies, recommends and implements solutions to issues. Participates in REHAB initiatives to improve processes and communication Establishes and keeps current policies and procedures. OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Performs other duties as assigned .SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
The population served includes individuals affected by stroke, orthopedic related conditions, brain and spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, and other neurological and medical conditions. REHAB's patients range from pre-teen to geriatric age ranges. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Certification/Licensure:
Current State of Hawaii SP licensure. Current ASHA membership card (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association). Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association. Current BLS certification Completion of competencies and other job-related and REHAB requirements. Education:
Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology Skills/
Experience:
Knowledge of general speech and language and dysphagia theory and practice including those basic principles related to speech-language therapy and dysphagia techniques and methods specific to rehab speech-language pathology and dysphagia. Knowledge of literature and new developments in speech-language pathology with emphasis on rehabilitation. Ability to safely and effectively manage patients' mobility. Ability to clearly communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to safely provide care to patients PREFERRED
Qualifications Education:
Special emphasis in Master's program in the area of Neurogenic Communication Disorders and in Dysphagia Skills/
Experience:
Clinical Fellowship (CF) completed in a site providing rehabilitation services. EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS USED Computer, computerized and written information, facsimile machine, telephone, photocopier, and related office equipment. Knowledge of Google's G Suites and database.
