With some 5,000 employees in 122 weather forecast offices, 13 river forecast centers, 9 national centers, and other support offices around the country, NWS provides a national infrastructure to gather and process data worldwide. The Meteorology (Pathways Student) GS-03/04 position is responsible for the following major duties:
Performs standardized duties related to weather observations, research, methodology, and collection of data
Receives on-the-job training to acquire operational experience with National Weather Service programs, policies, and procedures
Receives training in the development of forecast products, performing a variety of studies and analysis within limited scope and complexity

Pathways Internship Eligibility
All applicants for this position must meet the following Pathways Eligibility requirement:
All applicants must be currently enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, on at least a half-time schedule as a student at in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs (e.g., graduate school, law school); or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a degree or certificate.
Minimum Qualifications
In addition to the above Pathways Eligibility requirement, applicants must meet the following based on the grade(s) desired:
GS-03 Grade LevelMust have completed at least 1 academic year of post-high school study (NOTE: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university.)
GS-04 Grade LevelMust have completed at least 2 academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree (NOTE: two years of full-time academic study is defined as 60 semester hours, 90 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university.)

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION:
Interns may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years) within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
To be eligible for conversion, Interns must:
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
Complete their degree requirements. Please note, for the Meteorology, GS-1340 series, applicants must have a degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included: (1) at least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of: (a) 6 semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics; (b) 6 semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale); (c) 3 semester hours of physical meteorology; and (d) 2 semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation. (2) 6 semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions. (3) 3 semester hours of ordinary differential equations. ((4) at least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer, aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science. Note: There is a prerequisite or co-requisite of calculus for course work in atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics, physics, and differential equations. Calculus courses must be appropriate for a physical science major.

Agencies may waive up to 320 of the required 640 hours of work for Interns who demonstrate high potential as evidenced by outstanding academic achievement and exceptional job performance.
In addition, students working in agencies through third-party intern providers may count up to 320 of the hours they work toward the 640 hour requirement.
Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.

Individuals must meet the qualifications and eligibility requirements throughout the duration of the Internship appointment. Prior to initial appointment, Interns must provide documentation of student status. Such documentation may be in the form of an official copy of school transcript, documentation of registration, tuition bill, or, a copy of the acceptance letter from the college or university for new students.
Interns must provide a copy of up-to-date transcripts (unofficial) at the end of each academic year, unless requested more frequently by the supervisory or Human Resources Office, for verification of enrollment and academic standing as proof of continuing eligibility for participation in the Intern program.
The appointment of a Pathways Program participant who is not converted to a term, career-conditional or career appointment in the competitive service automatically expires at the end of their appointment or bureau-approved extension, if applicable. Therefore, the appointment of any Interns who have not been converted at the end of the program must be terminated.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
